To get to Ushuaia there are 3 options among which we can count by air, land or sea; In this article we are going to tell you about the 3, so you can choose the best option for your trip!

By plane to southern Patagonia

The fastest option to get to Tierra del Fuego is by air. and currently, the lines that operate at the Ushuaia airport are Aerolíneas Argentinas, FlyBondi, JetSmart and Lade. Of the 4 options, Aerolíneas Argentinas is the one with the most daily frequencies, which can be convenient for you to manage your time in the city.

Before continuing, we want to tell you that in Argentina, most of the tourist destinations that can be reached by plane, usually have the city of Buenos Aires as their starting point, almost always having to return to this city to be able to visit another place, however for Ushuaia, there are also flights from the provinces of Buenos Aires (Bahía Blanca). Córdoba, Santa Cruz, Rio Negro, Chubut mostly in summer, and sometimes, charter flights (direct) from São Paulo (Brazil) in winter.

In the summer, between November and March there is an air route of Aerolíneas Argentinas known as the Patagonian corridor, which connects the cities of Puerto Madryn (Chubut), Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego), El Calafate (Santa Cruz) and San Carlos de Bariloche (Río Negro) since there are flights that depart from the city of Buenos Aires and connect all these destinations without having to return to the airport of origin. giving passengers the possibility to combine and visit multiple destinations without having to return to Buenos Aires. This is also positive for the people who live in these towns and want to reach the End of the World!

As for costs, it must be taken into account that Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, therefore the furthest point from the capital of the country, so the cost of air tickets is usually high, however, buying in advance, say 4 to 6 months or more, tickets can be obtained at excellent prices.

Despite the more than 3,000 km that separate Ushuaia from the city of Buenos Aires, the duration of a flight is about 3 and a half hours approximately, depending on the size of the plane, which greatly shortens the great distance between one point and the other!

National Routes No. 3 and No. 40

Ushuaia is a very attractive destination for those who want to reach the end of National Route N°3, symbolically the End of the World, and for this, there are people who arrive by car, motorcycle or bicycle! Let’s also say that to see the real dimension of Patagonia and the multiple destinations that exist, you must travel by land.

That said, we have to think before getting into a vehicle, whether private or bus, that the southernmost city in the world is really far away! By bus, taking the city of Buenos Aires as an example, you have to travel almost 2 whole days, and this considering that these vehicles have a driver and only stop to refuel or drop off or get on more passengers. If you want to travel in a private car, you have to think that you should stop to rest and the duration of the trip, without stopping to visit other destinations, can be 3 days, being a really exhausting trip for those who drive, although full of experiences and landscapes that fill the eyes and the heart.

Getting to Ushuaia by land is a great life experience, however it is something that we only recommend to do during the summer, remember that Patagonia in winter has snow and ice, which can be dangerous for people who are not used to traveling in such conditions. In addition to this, it is important to consider that land vehicles need winter wheels and special safety elements to be able to circulate.

Cruises visiting Ushuaia

The third option to visit Ushuaia is by sea on one of the cruise ships that depart from Buenos Aires, Valparaíso (Chile), Montevideo (Uruguay) or Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). For Argentines, this option is very attractive, despite its high cost compared to the other options, since some of these cruises visit the Falkland Islands, a place that is difficult for Argentines to access due to the 1982 conflict and its consequences.

The visit that cruises make to Ushuaia is usually only 1 day, although some can stay 2 as well, however they give the possibility of reaching the End of the World and visiting Lapataia Bay, in the Tierra del Fuego National Park, where the end of National Route No. 3 is located, perhaps the most important place on the entire island.

Cruises have high costs since they involve a minimum of 800 or 900 dollars for an internal cabin without a view (this would be an ultra last minute price), the expenses made in the ports where land is touched and also the transportation back to the port of departure or the city in which you live.
