The Darwin Experience is a unique adventure in Patagonia that combines nature, history and adrenaline. Inspired by the route that the naturalist Charles Darwin Made in the nineteenth century along the Santa Cruz River, this excursion invites you to paddle through unexplored landscapes of the Patagonian steppe while immersing yourself in the immensity and serenity of the environment. Ideal for lovers of kayak, adventure and unconventional destinations.
Start with pickup in 4×4 vans from your hotel in El Calafate (provided you have reception). 40 km from the city is the Charles Furh Park, where the activity begins.
After a brief introduction and warm-up exercises led by certified guides, you’ll outfit yourself with a Goretex drysuit, life jacket, boots, and gloves to start your kayak descent down the Santa Cruz River.
During the 80 minutes of navigation (approximately 15 km), you will witness the vastness of the Patagonian steppe, a remote and captivating environment. The journey ends at the Estancia El Roncón, where you will enjoy lunch in a cozy setting before returning by 4×4 to El Calafate.
Pickup in El Calafate: Departure in 4x4 vans from your accommodation to Charles Furh Park. Preparation: Arrival at the starting point, where you will equip yourself with everything you need for kayaking. Warm-up: Guided session to familiarize yourself with the activity and ensure safety.
Kayak: A 15 km journey (approximately 80 minutes) along a quiet stretch surrounded by unspoiled landscapes. Landscapes: The immensity of the Patagonian steppe and the blue river are the protagonists.
Lunch: Time to enjoy a simple and comforting meal during the stay. Relaxation: Space to rest and enjoy the surroundings
Transfer: Travel in a 4x4 on gravel roads and the mythical Route 40 to El Calafate.
The activity is suitable for people over 12 years of age in good physical condition. It is not suitable for children under 12 years of age or people with reduced mobility.
You will be equipped with a Goretex dry suit, life jacket, boots and gloves.
It is recommended to wear comfortable and warm clothing before and after the activity, as well as a hat and sunglasses.
There are special rates for companions that do not include kayaking.
The activity is carried out whenever weather conditions allow it to guarantee safety.
