We start by looking for passengers in El Calafate for those who hire the transfer. On the way to Los Glaciares National Park, the guides will provide information about the area and the activity. Upon arrival at Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, 70 km from El Calafate, you will embark to cross Lake Rico on a short 10-minute journey with privileged views of the south wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Upon disembarking in Bahía Puma, you will be greeted by specialized mountain guides, who will form subgroups of up to 20 people. We will start a walk of about an hour bordering the shore of the lake and ascending the lateral moraine, always with the glacier in front of us so as not to lose sight of possible landslides.
Upon reaching the edge of the ice, everyone will be equipped with crampons and helmets provided by the company. The experience is highly personalized, with one guide for every 10 passengers. After a brief safety briefing, you will begin exploring the glacier, a circuit of medium/high difficulty where you travel about 5.5 km in rocky terrain, moray eel and impressive blue ice formations, such as deep crevasses, sinkholes and seracs.
At the end of the walk on the ice, we will visit the base of the waterfall and then return along the moraine to Puma Bay. There we will embark again to the port. This excursion takes place in a natural environment where the climate and the glacier change day by day, although the departure is not suspended as long as safety conditions allow.
